Chloé's Happy STYLE
She has always used color in her work and considers herself a color explorer. She likes to see how colors interact with each other. In her paintings, there are always two main colors that play together, through gradations and patterns. For almost 10 years, she has explored watercolor, pushing this medium and paper to their limits with surprising results. She now works with acrylics, where she has relearned everything she needs to bring her ideas to life. As a support for her colors, she naturally chose portraits of women. A pose, a silhouette or a look can be the starting point for her paintings. The gaze is as important an element as the color.
Why we LOVE Chloé
Chloé seduced us with her colorful world and her total freedom in the use of color. Her characters are blue, purple and red, giving them an incredible character.
Another absolute favorite is the printed backgrounds, which are in perfect harmony with the characters’ outfits – a very well thought-out composition that works wonders!
The Happy Funky PORTRAIT by Chloé
♥ Do you remember your first aesthetic shock?
Two buildings come to mind, as a teenager faced with the exterior beauty of the Santa Maria Del Fiore cathedral in Florence. And more recently the Nezu Museum in Tokyo, once in the hall, the architecture sets off the garden like a jewel, and the rain that day didn’t spoil anything, it flowed perfectly like a curtain of pearls in the foreground thanks once again to an ingenious drainage system. In fact, the entire collection in this little museum was an aesthetic shock!
♥ The artist you’d like to meet? What would you say to him or her?
I admire a lot of people’s work, but I’m not good at making conversation so I’ll just say thank you.
♥ What’s your favorite color? What does it inspire in you?
My relationship with color is a bit peculiar, because depending on its medium it won’t have the same brilliance. But I’d say green in general, a beautiful spin or emerald green more particularly. Cool colors like these soothe me and are linked to nature. But on a portrait it’s difficult because the effect isn’t the same!
♥ Which museum gives you the greatest emotion? Why?
I’d have to say the Musée d’Orsay for its magnificent work of staging and showcasing the works, with carefully chosen colored walls and that magnificent central aisle with the sculptures.
♥ What work of art would you buy without hesitation if you had an unlimited budget?
If I had such a budget, I would buy from artists who inspire me enormously or emerging artists. I’m thinking of Martine Johanna, Jenny Morgan, Inès Longévial, Erik Jones, Firenze Lai, Anna Park or Robin Francesca Williams.
♥ In which city do you feel happiest? Why or why not? Share your 3 favorite addresses.
No idea, because I’m a homebody! I need to see nature even if I like the city like Lyon because we eat well there. One of my favorite addresses is Doma, 11 rue lanterne, in the 1st district.
Then a nice picnic on the tiny rocky beach of Elgol in Scotland. I don’t need anything else, just me facing the sea and the Cuillins, and my mind often goes back there!
And still with the nature and spiritual side, the Okuno-in cemetery on Mount Koya in Japan. The atmosphere there is magical, changing with the weather, and you can feel the fine line between humans and spirits, reminiscent of the film Chihiro’s Journey.
♥ What book keeps you up all night?
A lot of manga, currently Jujutsu Kaisen or the works of Tayou Mastumoto.
♥ What are your biggest sources of inspiration?
What’s in my daily life, food, music, movies, nature and the artists I follow on Instagram.
♥ What’s the funkiest thing you’ve done in your life?
A child who has amazed me every day since he was born.
♥ What’s your definition of happiness?
Feeling good about yourself already, feeling good about your family and a few good friends.
